Synaptotagmins are a family of calcium sensing, membrane trafficking proteins. 17 different synaptotagmins have been identified in mammals. Synaptotagmin 3 is predominantly expressed in postsynaptic endocytic zones of neurons and has recently been shown to internalize AMPA receptors to depress synaptic strength and promote forgetting (Awasthi A. et al., 2019).
