Getting Started with your Custom Recombinant Antibody Project
As the first step in your custom antibody development, we start by determining the sequence of the variable domains of the heavy and light chains of the antibody you would like to have made into a recombinant version.
We will need one of the following to start a recombinant antibody project:
- Hybridoma cell line
- Variable chain sequence
- Expression plasmids for the recombinant antibody/fragment.
Synthesis and Purification Timelines
Timeline is typically 1-3 months, but will vary based on starting material provided.
- 4-5 weeks when a ready-to transfect plasmid is provided.
- 7-9 weeks when sequences are provided and plasmid design and construction are required.
- 8-10 weeks when hybridoma material is provided and antibody sequencing, followed by plasmid design and contruction, is requried.

Through hybridoma sequencing, we retrieve the variable heavy VH and light VL chain sequences. Once sequenced, we clone them into high-expression vectors for recombinant production, securing your clone perpetually against drift, loss, or contamination.
What if I don't have a hybridoma clone or sequence?
If you do not have an existing hybridoma or antibody sequence, you can start with our custom mouse monoclonal antibody service. Once the hybridoma is generated, we can sequence the antibody variable regions and use the sequence to express the antibody recombinantly.
Do you make recombinant polyclonals?
We currently do not offer recombinant polyclonal antibody production. Our recombinant antibody services currently focus on monoclonal antibodies.
How long does recombinant antibody production take?
Project timelines depend on the starting material and scope of the project. If a ready-to-transfect plasmid is provided, production can typically be completed in approximately 4-5 weeks. Projects requiring sequence generation or antibody sequencing will require additional time.
What production scales are available?
We offer recombinant antibody production from 100 mL to 1000 mL culture scales. Larger-scale production may be available depending on project requirements.
How do you ensure batch-to-batch consistency and purity?
We are ISO 13485 certified and operate under a quality management system to ensure consistent, high-quality products. Antibody purity is assessed by SDS-PAGE, and we guarantee a purity of >90%.
What antibody validation strategies do you perform?
Our standard QC includes antibody isotyping, when applicable, and assessment of antibody purity by SDS-PAGE. Additional characterization or application-specific testing may be available as a custom service.
Can you provide antibody conjugation services?
Yes. We offer custom conjugation options, including fluorescent dyes, biotin, and HRP. Conjugation typically adds 1-2 weeks to the project timeline.
Do I retain all Intellectual Property (IP) for custom recombinant sequences?
Yes. You retain all IP associated with custom recombinant antibody sequences provided by you.
What express or pilot-scale production options are available?
We currently do not offer an express production service. However, pilot-scale antibody production can be provided on a custom basis depending on the project requirements.
How are the final antibodies formulated, packaged, and shipped?
Final purified antibodies can be formulated in a custom buffer and provided in custom packaging, based on your requirements. Antibodies are shipped on blue ice via FedEx Priority Overnight.
