ADP-ribosylation factor-like protein 6 (Bardet-Biedl syndrome 3 protein)
ADP-ribosylation factor-like protein 6, Bardet-Biedl syndrome 3 protein or BBS3/Arl6 is encoded by the gene ARL6 and is a member of the ARF family withing the small GTPase superfamily. BBS3 acts as a regulator of cellular traffic and has roles in protein transport and membrane trafficking. BBS3 is widely expressed in tissues including brain, eye, heart and kidney. Mutations in this gene are associated with Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS).
