Actin-like protein 6A, or BAF Complex 53 KDa Subunit (BAF53a) is encoded by the gene ACTL6A and is a member of actin-related proteins family. It is a subunit of the neuron specific chromatin remodeling complex (nBAF complex). BAF53a is thought to be involved in transcriptional activation and repression of chromatin remodeling. BAF53a is a subunit of the neural progenitors-specific chromatin remodeling complex (npBAF complex). BAF53a is expressed in many different cell types. Diseases associated with ACTL6A include Coffin-siris syndrome and Brachymorphism-Onychodysplasia-Dysphalangism Syndrome.
