Potassium voltage-gated channel modifier subfamily G member 1 is encoded by the gene KCNG1. KCNG1 is a member of the potassium channel family, G (TC 1.A.1.2) subfamily, Kv6.1/KCNG1 sub-subfamily. KCNG1 is a potassium channel subunit that does not form functional channels by itself. It can form functional heterotetrameric channels with KCNB1. KCNG1 modulates the delayed rectifier voltage-gated potassium channel activation and deactivation rates of KCNB1. KCNG1 is expressed in skeletal muscle. Diseases associated with KCNG1 include Colon Small Cell Carcinoma and Fragile X Syndrome.
Fusion protein amino acids 1-227 (cytoplasmic N-terminus) of mouse Kv6.1 (also known as Potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily G member 1, Voltage-gated potassium channel subunit Kv6.1, kH2 and Kcng1, accession number A2BDX4)
Rat: 97% identity (220/227 amino acids identical)
Human: 89% identity (202/227 amino acids identical)
<50% identity with Kv6.4/KCNG4 and other Kv channels
