Scientific Background

Contactin1 or Neural Cell Surface Protein F3 is encoded by the gene CNTN1 and is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. Contactin1 is a membrane anchored membrane protein that functions as a cell adhesion molecule. It may play a role in the formation of axon connections in the developing nervous system. Contactin1 is expressed in the brain by neurons and oligodendrocytes. Diseases associated with this gene include types of Congenital Myopathy.
