Vesicular glutamate transporter 2 (Vglut2) is encoded by the gene Slc17a6 and belongs to the vesicular glutamate transporter family. Vglut2 is expressed in the thalamus, midbrain, brainstem, and spinal cord at synaptic vesicles. It functions to uptake glutamate into synaptic vesicles in excitatory neural cells. Altered expression of Vglut2 has been implicate in include Gnathodiaphyseal Dysplasia and tendinosis.
