Product Details
Cav1.2 Ca2+ Channel
Cav1.2 is the pore-forming subunit of the L-type voltage-gated calcium channel (VGCC). The necessity of calcium for heart contraction was identified in the 1880s, it wasn't until the late 1980s that the CACNA1C gene encoding Cav1.2 was successfully cloned and characterized. Cav1.2 is a "molecular transducer" that converts electrical signals into chemical actions. It is most prominent in cardiac and smooth muscle, as well as in neurons. When the cell membrane depolarizes, Cav1.2 undergoes a conformational change to allow Ca2+ ions to flow into the cytoplasm. In the heart, this influx is the first step for excitation-contraction coupling, as it triggers the RyR2 receptors to release the bulk of the calcium needed for a heartbeat. In the brain, Cav1.2-mediated calcium entry is vital for Long-Term Potentiation (LTP) and gene expression. Dysfunction in Cav1.2 is clinically linked to Timothy Syndrome, a severe multisystem disorder characterized by cardiac arrhythmias and autism.

This recombinant antibody is a chimeric antibody created by replacing the mouse heavy and light constant regions of clone N500/4 with chicken IgY heavy and light constant regions. As such this antibody retains the same binding performance as the original clone N500/4 but can be detected using standard anti-chicken secondary antibodies allowing flexibility for multiplexing applications. This antibody is expressed recombinantly in mammalian cells and then affinity purified from the cell culture media and conjugated.
