Immunofluorescent staining of HepG2 cells using 10 ug/mL rabbit polyclonal anti-Ferritin antibody (RP-4001) (green). The cells were mounted with Antibodies Incorporated Fluoroshield with DAPI mounting medium (Cat. AR-6501). DAPI nuclear stain (blue) shows cell nuclei. Anti-Ferritin stains the endogenous ferritin in the cytoplasm of HepG2 cells.

Western blotting of HepG2 cell lysate using 0.2 ug/mL, 1 ug/mL, or 5 ug/mL Antibodies Incorporated rabbit anti-Ferritin heavy chain antibody (RP-4001). RP-4011 rabbit anti-Ferritin antibody recognizes endogenous Ferritin heavy chain at ~25 kDa.

Scientific Background

Ferritin protein consists of 24 protein units, these are both light and heavy type with MW of 19 kDa and 21 kDa respectively. Each Ferritin complex (MW 474 kDa) can store 4500 iron ions. Serum Ferritin levels are measured as part of the iron studies work up for anemic and for restless leg syndrome. Ferritin can be elevated during periods of acute malnourishment. This antibody reacts with human Ferritin.
