Scientific Background

Homeobox protein ARX, Aristaless-related homeobox or ARX is encoded by the gene ARX and is a member of the group-II aristaless-related protein family. ARX functions as a transcription factor and is thought to be involved in normal CNS development. ARX is expressed in brain and pancreas during development. Diseases associated with ARX include Early Infantile Epileptic Encephalopathy and X-linked Lissencephaly.
