Scientific Background

Nuclear Receptor Binding SET Domain Protein 3 is encoded by the gene NSD3. NSD3 is a member of the class V-like SAM-binding methyltransferase superfamily, histone/lysine methlytransferase family, SET2 subfamily. NSD3 methylates histone H3 at lysine residues 4 and 27, which represses gene expression. NSD3 is expressed in the brain, heart, skeletal muscle, liver, and lungs. Diseases associated with NSD3 include Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome and Nut Midline Carcinoma.
