Scientific Background

Myelin-oligodendrocyte glycoprotein is encoded by the gene MOG. MOG is a membrane protein expressed on the cell surface of oligodendrocytes and thought to provide structural integrity to the outermost surface of myelin sheaths. MOG is involved in mediation of homophilic cell-cell adhesion. MOG is expressed in brain and the central nervous system. Diseases associated with this gene include Narcolepsy and Rubella.
