Inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor type 1 or IP3 receptor type 1 (IP3R1) serves as a receptor for IP3. It is expressed in many tissues in the endoplasmic reticulum to facilitate calcium release from the ER. In brain, (IP3R1) is predominantly expressed in cerebellar Purkinje neurons.. Mutations in this gene cause spinocerebellar ataxia type 15 and spinocerebellar Ataxia 29.
