Target Description:

Gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor subunit theta or GABA AR-Theta is encoded by the gene GABRQ. GABAA receptors are members of the Cys-loop family of ligand-gated ion channels. GABA AR theta is a subunit of the pentameric GABA receptors where GABA is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the vertebrate brain and mediates neuronal inhibition by binding to the GABA receptor and opening an integral chloride channel. GABA AR-theta is expressed in brain at the cell junction, synapse,and the postsynaptic cell membrane with high protein levels in the hypothalamus and dentate gyrus.
