Introducing Antibodies Inc. Blasto-Fluor stain
Antibodies Inc. is pleased to announce the availability of its Blast-FL stain (product number 15-310). This stain was developed by conjugating antibodies to Blastocystis to FITC. It provides a valuable tool to researchers and clinicians to help identify Blastocystis in preserved and unpreserved stool samples.
SoluLink Kits
Label your Neuromab directly! Labeling your antibodies allows you to probe into complex solutions, tissues, as well as protein and nucleic acid blots and arrays. You can find the SoluLink kits under the catalog dropdown list.
Coming soon ELISA-based test for Blastocystis coming
We are developing serological and direct detection ELISA-based tests for Blastocystis. Distinguishing the antibody response to specific subtypes may provide insights into pathology. It is certainly important to have simple clinical tests like this for keeping track of this organism. These tests will be available for research purposes by the end of the year and should help answer: Is Blastocystis causing irritable bowel syndrome?
Blastocystis is a gastrointestinal parasite considered a pathogen causing symptoms often associated with irritable bowel syndrome. The prevalence of this organism seems to be rising as more and more veterans of our Middle East wars are being found positive for Blastocystis. Clinical diagnosis of this organism currently utilize microscopic analysis of fecal samples, although PCR tests are available (Clongen Labs, LLC) and a recent study (Jones, et al, 2008) indicates that RT-PCR may be useful in diagnosis. Some of the subtypes of the organism may be uniquely associated with antibody responses in patients and perhaps with pathogenicity, as well, but there is much disagreement in the literature.
The NeuroMab Facility develops and distributes (at cost) high quality, validated monoclonal antibodies for use in basic and applied neuroscience research.
Validation includes immunoblots on extracts, staining of sections from a mammalian brain, and whenever possible, specimens from knockout animals
